How could you keep from it !! ?

Not in the least. It was not the "fat woman" (you could choose more compassionate descriptors) who broke the chair. The chair was in distress and needed to be repaired. That chair would have broken in the next few days regardless of who sat on it.

"Fat people" already know they're big. They know that they're laughed at by crude, undisciplined people who like to judge people by the outsides. It is hard to leave home when you're big because of jerks who laugh at big people. Why do they laugh? Because something in this larger person's life may be out of control in some way. Why do they laugh? Because they're with a group of their peers and they haven't yet learned the fine art of being compassionate. Was anyone concerned if the "fat woman" was hurt? Concern for her well-being would be the appropriate response.

It probably wasn't that long ago when that "fat woman" was a slim woman, and anyone can suddenly get fat in a short amount of time. Watch what you laugh at, it might come back and laugh in your fat face someday.

Peace.

Ya, I broke our porch swing and laughed at myself, right along with my husband and kids!

It was hilarious!
On a serious note, though, it could hurt a woman's feelings if a stranger laughed at her in public. Be polite, help the lady up. Just cuz a woman is big doesn't mean she's not a lady inside.
I'm fat, but happy and still a lady.........and I have the benefit of more cushion for the pushin'! LOL

Speaking as a fat woman that has broken a chair (it was an old lawn chair) I'd rather have people laugh with me (cuz I'd be cracking up) than sit in embarrassed silence.

PS Make sure she's okay, though. Its not funny if she's hurt.

No. It may be "funny" to you, but think about how that person would feel. If it were you sitting in that chair and broke it, and someone started laughing, how would you feel? Embarrassed, sad, mad. Think about being in that person's shoes. You wouldn't want to be laughed at. Even though it may seem funny, it isn't. I would feel sorry for them and try to help them. Wouldn't you want someone to do that for you?
