Sandals and Riu are two entirely different resorts. I stayed at RIU Negril this summer and it was fantastic. The place is new, in fact Ochos Rios is even newer, the rooms are nice, they each have a free bar in the rooms, the employees are all really nice, the food is excellent, the entertainment great. I guess you get the idea. I am saving to go back to Jamaica, and plan to stay at the RIU again.
I will offer one suggestion if you don't mind. The RIU's are all-inclusive, and the gratuities are not required. Please be kind and tip these people. While their uniforms are new, crisp, and clean, they live in severe poverty. If you ask any of them, you will find that they more than likely walk to work. Sometimes for 1-2 hours, one way. A couple of dollars tip will feed their family for the whole day, and you're wallet won't even miss it.
Remember also to treat these people with the same respect that you wish to be treated with. It will go a long way, and you will both feel good about it.
Have an excellent time. I can't wait to go again!!

Hi Kristine M, as the other poster sayed Sandals and Rui are to different resorts, But I have stayed at Sandals Dunns River and the Rui is right next to it, it is a huge resort, and very new, if you are staying there, one thing to know is if you want to eat at one of the special resteraunts, you will have to make reservations very early in the day, and when I say early I'm saying 6-7 am. Now if you are talking about Sandals Grande Ochos Rios, then I can tell you this, we got married at SDR and our family stayed at SGOR, and we visited several days, this resort is huge, it really is Two resorts,(use to be Beachs) and it has two totaly different styles, On one side is the Manor side, which is very nice, but its up on a hill away from the Ocean, it has lots of pools and you can take a short bus ride to the ocean 5-10 mintues, by one of there jutta bus, its not a big deal really, the other side is the Rievira side(sp) and this part is right on the ocean, the rooms are a little older, and not quit as big, but still very nice, you also have the exchange rights to visit SDR and also Beachs property, but there is no shuttle to Beachs, so you will have to get a cab, were SDR has hourly shuttles to SDR, it is a about 15 minutes from resort to resort, We liked the Manor side as it was very quit and always a place to get away from everyone, also some of these rooms have semi and private pools, with full kitchen, (not that you need it). if you still need my answers. check out www.tripadvisor.com here you will find tons of pitcures and reviews of both propertys from people who have been there, not just the resort pitcures they want you to see. If you still have questions feel free to contact me at schierup1987@yahoo.com. Good Luck have fun at either, we leave in 6 days to SDR.
