I suggest you start a very strict series of actions before going to bed.
1) no TV for one hour
2) no caffeine in the evening
3) for 1 hour before bed spend time reading something positive, like one of the "Chicken Soup" book.
4) for 10 minutes before bed spend time getting clothes out for the next day and getting ready for be
5) just before getting into bed spend a few minutes looking at your favorite pictures with family, friends, scenery, and think positive thoughts about the people and feelings shown in the pictures.
6) If you start getting the feeling that something might come during the night, think back to the pictures and how safe and secure they make you feel.
7) the only way to get rid of bad thoughts is to keep replacing them with good thoughts. Force the bad out and allow the good to take over.
You must keep this routine up for at least 3 weeks to form a habit of thinking about the nice things at night time

I used to have the same problem. Have you tried talking to someone about it?

Have a hot drink like milk or hot chocolate before you go to bed - it's supposed to relax you. Read a book until you feel sleepy or while you're in bed just pray. If you're scared of the dark, get one of those plug in lights which you could keep on all night.

Are you married? I talked it over with my husband and I feel a lot 'safer' now as he is there beside me. I always keep a small light on so it's not completely dark and pray before bedtime. Good luck.

Drink a cup of herbal tea about an hour befor you go to bed. As you are lying in bed, breathe deeply for twenty repetitions and feel your body relaxing. Think pleasant thoughts and fill your mind with images you like, and best-case scenarios. See if this helps.

Sounds like anxiety and stress. I take a supplement called 5HTP at night(available in any health store) Nature's Bounty is a good brand. 5 HTP treats mild depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia, and stress eating.

I fall asleep after an hour of taking it. No hangover the next day and I wake up in a good mood.

Have you ever been diagnosed with anxiety disorder?
You may need some meds,or better yet go look into home remedies or vitamins.
I know I had the same problem and put on meds, but they arent working now so I think if it can be done without meds,it would be better in the long run.
