People seem to need more and more of everything but where can you draw the line? They eat too much junk in a hurry ,buy material things to find inner peace, work to grow status but still this certain emptiness hounds. Can you find what you´re looking for in a cruel and busy world like this that doesn´t seem to serve the humanity anymore? Where´d you turn for real satisfaction and truth of life?

You feel disgusted by our current way of life. I think that's good. For everyone who's even little bit intuitive and has managed to open her eyes just slightly feels that something is wrong. I salute you sis!

I think that fear is the reason why nothing is enough. Actually, you said it yourself, the answer to your question! The reason is that haunting emptiness.

Every now and then everyone feels a short moment of clarity when she feels that something is wrong, that the goals we are made to value, values coming from the outside, are wrong. That we are somehow living a life that's not ours. On that moment we know, even if subconsciously, that we are not in charge of our lives, BUT we could be. This insight is VERY scary, being in charge of our own lives and really fulfilling our hearts desire would probably mean total overhaul of our lives, and this change is scary. It's terrifying. We would be alone.

So, simply when we face these moments what we do? Instead of changing our lives we try to fill that emptiness with TV, books, shopping, goals etc... We get addicted, we have love affairs, we are jealous, we do what ever is necessary to avoid that simple fact that it's all going to hell right from the start. We could just stop.

Example from my life: I've always been a "great" analyzer. I tend to analyze my feelings and relationships in order to discover some logic. Something I could control. Why I do this? I've recently understood that it's because I'm afraid. End of analysis would mean that I would accept that relationships are a mystery, that women are a mystery, that my emotions would guide me freely and could lead me to a direction I find scary. I'm afraid of letting go.... but I want to let go. So much..

We found peace of life by moving to a small country town with a church at every corner. We bought a small cabin next to people who live in tiny small homes and do not make a lot of money. Average income $30,000 We are 40 miles from the nearest doctor or hospital or Walmart, home depot, Lowe's. We have one tiny grocery and a dollar store. There are more cows then people in this county and we find time to go to church, have sunday dinner and invite neighbors. To have time to do what we want to do, not what the crowd is doing. There are quiet places still in this US. We stopped tring to compete with the neighbors and with friends years ago. We have enough material things to make us happy and nothing fancy, we try not to buy material things. Peace is a state of mnd not when you live. Believing in God and praying helps. But it helps to live in a quiet place where no one is in a hurry. Our town has less then 700 people lin it. The sheriff knows everyone and everyones business. The school is small, children do not cruise up and down the city street as they are at home. Most have chores to do and cows to care for when they get home. Place is not perfect because our small jail is full, but it lends itself to outher counties and houses their prisoners too. There is a group of long time elders that run the town and they keep big businesses out. Most places are family run. We have one restaurant, a subway, the local tavern is a pizza place too as is the local serice station. The other service staton makes hamburgers and such on the side. Every place of business is closed at 7 pm. On saturday everything closes at noon and on sunday the town is deserted. Wish all towns were like this one. We do try to stay away from big towns and live here because Ktrina displaced us. Its a very nice pace of life. Life on a mountain ridge is easy going.

Dont worry about it, it will soon be over.

No, not the whole world, just this fad of greed.
Its the natural extrapolation of capitalism, turned commercialism and consumerism. Pretty soon it will all fold in on itself and the economy will no longer be the god of governments.
There will still be the free market economy, but the drive for humanity will be people, not profit.

Sooner rather than later people will come to the conclusion that good enough will do (probably about the time that oil runs out)

I think it was Ben Franklin who is supposed to have said "The reasonable man accomodates himself to his surroundings, the unreasonable man attempts to accomodate his surroundings to himself: therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man".

Man has ever been thus, and without this quality we would have no wheel, no fire, no aspirin, no chemotherapy, no drinkable water, no Yahoo!Answers...

The world is not really any "crueller" than it has ever been, all that has really changed significantly is global communications and efficiency of information exchange, so now we all KNOW what's going on around us!

True peace comes from within: There have always been people who "need" to be shown a system from without because they are to lazy or lack the imagination or education (this isn't blame, it's just reality) to comprehend that life is just life, that we are only here to perpetuate life, and that life is pretty much an "accident of chemistry".

Quantum physics (and Buddhism) teach us that there really is no difference between "you" & "not-you", and that the universe just "is". We do each have the choice whether to fret or marvel over this, however!

I hope you choose to marvel. If we all did there'd be a lot less fighting!

The people of the US (and many other countries), just can't seem to get enough things - materialistically speaking. Both parents in a home lucky enough to have two, need to work full time - thereby neglecting the supervision and love of their children - just because they NEED to have everything new that comes out. It is a pity.

It's only a cruel world of the type you describe if you make it that way, by eating junk food etc. It's up to you.

I think it's great that you have become aware of this. It means you can see the problem clearly. What that means for you is to discover what makes YOU happy and do things you enjoy and not pay attention to the "buy more, get more" lifestyle.

Hope this helps :)
