It is illegal to download anything (music, movies, etc.) freely unless you pay a monthly or per item charge. Unless there are offers to receive these free. There are some programs that allow you to download stuff for free. Theese are called P2P networks (Peer 2 Peer). You must be overly cautious using theese programs as copyright laws apply. Some examples (these are examples only and should be researched for copyright law infringement), Bear Share, Kazaa, Soulseek, etc.
Once again, be cautious where you download your music, movies, etc. as the laws are becoming more severe for penalties.
