It depends. Is it a 2.0l 4 cylinder or a 2.5l v6 engine.
The v6 takes 1.2 hours to replace it and the remanufactured alternator cost around 300.00

Just call or go to Auto Zone or another car parts store. They are ope on Sunday and will even test the one in your car without charge. Usually the replacement will be a lifetime free replacement one. Not all NAPA stores are open on Sunday, but they also test at no cost. Their parts do run more though. On an alternator I would guess about $40 more. Most alternators are over one hundred dollars at a parts store. At a salvage yard $20 and up.

Re-manufactured alternator for 626 appears to be around 200 dollars. Assuming it takes two hours to install it, and at the labor rate of 65 dollars, I'm guessing it will be somewhere around 400 dollars after tax, misc charges, etc are paid.

Your mechanic will probably suggest changing drive belt as well.... That will add probably 20 dollars or so.

Why don't you call your mechanic or the dealer for "guesstimate" quote? If they don't want to give it to you citing other things they might find, ask for parts price, and repair time on the book. Then ask for the labor rate. You can figure it out based on those numbers.

Depends on which engine you have.
I'm looking at my favorite online parts source and I see this:

2.0 litre engine prices range from $130 to $205. Core charges (the deposit charged pending the return of a rebuildable part) range from $0 to $83.00.

For the 2.5 litre engine the prices are similar:
Priced from $144 to $208 and cores from $26 to $83.

If you have the tools and the time do it yourself and save big bucks. If not, expect to spend a couple hundred on labor.

Good luck!

On a 2.0Liter you can purchase one for $117.99 from partsamerica.com. I think the shipping may even be free.

Anyway, you can call your local auto shop for a quote on installation, or for $117.99 you can do it yourself. I'm sure Mazdas are'nt too easy, but get one of those Haynes Repair Manuals from Advance Auto, AutoZone, or O'Reilys, and youre in business.

How about asking the local parts stores and repair shops this question. Prices vary be area, so what my price would be may not be the price you would pay. There are communication devices besides the computer.
