My teengage daughter drives my old car, a 2000 Ford Taurus. I haven't seen the car yet, but she says that the RPM drops suddenly (or sometimes spikes) when driving and when idling - and then sometimes stalls.

I know she's been buying cheap, no-name gas. Could that be the problem? I also know she doesn't maintain it regularly...

It shouldn't be the transmission (recently rebuilt)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

The Mass Air Flow Sensor in these can cause loss of power and sometimes the vehicle will stall. Look at the gas cap also. Fords that are fuel injected need good gas caps and they should always be turned to click two to three times when put back on after fueling. The system for fuel injection is pressurized and needs the pressure to be contant.

i'm a Ford tech a lifeless ringer for yugie and some others.... The contours had particularly solid engine and transmissions in the route of the top yet wiring and electric powered often were all of a Ford of Europe layout that became junk and some older Contours we've genuinely counseled purchasers scrap them then attempt to revive them with the aid of fee of replacing the wiring. (before Contours genuinely had a remember on the wiring harness.. do we are saying $one thousand except for exertions?(which out of the remember we charged upwards of $900 because of the various hours (and some automobiles it became in the route of an afternoon and a 1/2 to 2 days to do?) The taurus, if kept up are genuine solid automobiles. they are low-priced because Ford bought lots of them to fleets and the fleets were given rid of them after a particular time so there are quite some on the used vehicle marketplace with the aid of it. some have had some topics with engine and transmissions on them so i might want to signify all and sundry you've an interest in to have a mechanic seem at, yet my favorites from that 12 months are the three.0 4 valve engines. those are a lot more beneficial effectual high quality i stumble on (engine and transmission are different), have more beneficial ability and function a lot less complications than the more low priced 3.0 2 valve or vulcan motor.
