The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Start and Run Your Own Record Label, Revised and Expanded Edition by Daylle Deanna Schwartz
* Label Launch: A Guide to Independent Record Recording, Promotion, and Distribution by Veronika Kalmar
* Music Business Made Simple: Start An Independent Record Label by J.S. RUDSENSKE

I also posted links to some free articles in the source box.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

As a #1 record was made in a singer's bedroom, I would suggest that very little is needed to get set up.
It is more a matter of willing to work hard and finding talent.

You need bugger all to start it off. Charm and a phone will do it.

Just get a good name and start looking for bands.

If you want to punt artists onto bigger companies you ought to cut corners.

Try your local FE collgege, they may have some talented engineers and the recording studio as well as bands that make this a really expensive business to crack.
