During the training? Or afterward?
During the training, you will be opened ("attuned") to whatever style/lineage of Reiki your teacher is from. You will learn how to channel the energy and the hand positions for doing so. You will also learn the history of Reiki. I teach a lot more than that in level 1 but without knowing what type of Reiki you're learning I can't guess beyond that.
Afterward, you will have a 21 day cleansing period while the energy works its way through your physical, mental and emotional bodies and all your chakras, cleaning and reprogramming. I felt like I was a computer being defragged and I did have some major personality changes (for the better). You may get cold-like symptoms (as I tell my students, "if there's a part of your body stuff comes out of, more stuff might come out of it."). Try not to suppress them with drugs unless they are interfering with your life--this is a major cleansing, you need to let everything go.
Some masters may advise you to avoid meat and alcohol for those 21 days. I'm not fanatic about that, especially the meat part. If you can avoid alcohol and illegal drugs (and most people should be able to for 3 weeks) it will enhance your cleansing.
During those 21 days you should do at least 1 healing session per day on yourself and one on someone or something else (plant, pet, mother earth) to get the energy flowing and to get used to it.
Enjoy!

I am a Reiki practitioner, level 2. I find it extremely beneficial. I am working towards being Reiki Master which will let me train others. I give Reiki to my friends and family and get their feedback and they have all felt results, in different ways, some feel just more relaxed and others have felt emotional. One of my friends who suffers from anxiety loves to receive Reiki, it helps her feel grounded and the tension goes away. Just follow your intuition, if it is leading you to be a healer then you are making the right decision.

You should expect nothing except less money in your bank account.
Reiki is a classic new age type of 'energy based ' healing system based on the unproven belief that there are human energy fields, life force, chi...whatever you want to call it. All of these healing beliefs are really a form of religion, as you have to have a degree of faith that it works.
Reiki practitioners believe that ill health is caused by the energy fields being blocked or unbalanced, and that they can heal by unblocking or rebalancing said energy.
There are many other versions of "energy healing"....from religious faith healers, accupuncture, Therapeutic Touch...all with much the same philosophy of healing. ie that there is one cause of all illness, and one treatment for all ills.
As with all so-called alternative medicine (S.C.A.M.) it is highly reliant on the placebo effect, gullible victims, and the fact that most illnesses are self-limited.
There is absolutely no scientific evidence that a life force, energy field etc exists. There is absolutely no scientific evidence that energy healers can detect illness or affect it in anyway. If there was, we'd all be doing it and stop science based medicine.
