Do you think the kids turn out better if they have old fashioned parents? Have you notice these kids handle their money better, are more mature, well behaved in school, and turn out to be wiser than most? Any thoughts on this subject?

I'm not a TEEN I'm 29 I was raised by very open minded well educated parents my dads a military man. However I've never been spanked. My parents expected respect and got it without force. They were BIG on taking privileges away using hard chores as punishment like lawn mowing, basement cleaning exc. I've never been arrested never ran away never in trouble in school. I've had my own apartment from age of 18 till now! so I'd say i manage money well. I am married to a man of 34 who was raised VERY differently with strict parents who believed in fear and the belt and physical punishment. He is well adjusted very responsible very honorable man. He however had many issues in school . He did not move out FROM moms house till 33!. So the answer is it comes down to respect and there are better ways to get that then being abusive and strict.

I have a friend that has very strict/old fashioned parents. Basically they never let her do what a lot of teenagers try (drinking). She used to be super committed to school and involved in activities, but as she got older they increased their hold on her and all she wanted to do was break out and rebel. Now, she barely listens to them and they tried sending her away to a prep school but that didnt work out either..... It's better to let your kids live and learn a bit than to try and shelter them from everything. That's why so many kids go crazy and fail out of college in the first year because theyre finally away from their parents and have freedom/

My parents are old fashioned and I am more mature and behaved at school, but I think it is not because my parents are old fashioned. My friend has old fashioned parents and they don't let her do anything. She is the type that will get very loose in college.

in some cases they end up worse because some want to rebel and the more old fashioned the parents the more to rebel against or they could turn out normal but i don't think that they do any better in life than someone raised by hippies

it's not necessary having old fashioned parents, it's just having parents at all. too many parents these days are more concerned about being their kids friends instead of their parent. That and with more parents being single and trying to raise children on their own, they are more likely to be more caught up in their own affairs and not their kids. parents let their kids run wild, stay out until whenever they want to, and then we all wonder why our 13 year old are pregnant.

I hate to break the news to you but not alot has changed from when your parents were your age so I dont see how most parents born in the 60's for example could be "old" fashioned.

i thimk that if the parets are to old fashion when th kids just get a tad bit of trust then they will go buck wild but if they have a little freedom but most follow the rules of the old fashioned parents then they will turn out pretty darn good

i think it depends on how old fashioned the parent is. if parents shelter their children all their lives then when that child turn 18 they will most likely wild out. but if u have a moderate parent who lets u learn a little at a time and lets you make your own mistakes then u will come out more responsible. as for the parents that let you go buck wild i think their child will learn responsibility when its too late

That's not true. I had old fashioned parents who were way too strict and basically hypocrites. They put too much pressure on us and taught us idiotic things like 'abstain' from sex until your married. WTF?! They didn't even tell us about condoms! Today I'm the only one of my brothers who doesn't have a baby, but I've had an STD. Who does it benefit to have out-dated parenting skills in this day of age, definitely not the kids. I wish my parents would've focused more on loving and communicating with us rather than raising us the 'old fashioned' way!
