I cannot believe you posted such a question.

Burning the flag is your perogative-it does me no harm. You have to buy the flag-it is not government property. People burn the flag to make a statement. I think it's a bad practice, and they only do it for shock value. Burning the flag does not effect my feelings towards this country, it does not infringe on my freedom, and while I don't like it and would never do it, I say go for it. The only thing that burning the flag does to me is make me lose any respect I may have had for the fool who chose to burn it. But it is only a symbol.

As for burning the White House....I double dog dare you to try it lol!

Burning the flag is a sign of disrespect, and is allowed under our freedom of speech laws. No, the flag is not the property of the USA, I own my flag ( asymbol of the USA). Burning the white house is arson, that too is covered by our laws--and you would be so arrested.

Do you see how a piece of fabric sewn together into a symbol, and a building are two very different things?

Burn a LIBERIAN flat! Once that big star is burnt, nobody will know it's not an American one, and you can make your point safely. (Who's going to count the 11 stripes?)

For the rest, the whole point is whether the flag is burnt with respect or with scorn. And no, most flags are private property. And the US Government gives away thousands (every Congressperson and Senator, and the military, and who know how many other Government offices, give them out).

If you burned the White House, you'd be charged with arson. People can burn the U.S. flag because the Constitution gives them freedom of expression. So if people want to burn the flag, they can. Granted, they'll lose any amount of respect I might have for them, but then, who cares what I think?

you know I personally don't report abuses, because some people just have to get their feeling out, some more in-mature than others. If you are an American Citizen and burn the American Flag in front of me....! Maybe someone should report you. But I have a better idea...join Al Queda so some some great young American soldier can terminate your existence.

+ Not all democrats burn the flag. mostly the south does not the north. that is why we had the civil war (north VS south) for no more slavery and if the south would have won there would be a differnet flag the rebel flag.

The flag is not the property of the US government.

It is a piece of cloth or paper. Owned by whoever owns the cloth or paper, and like any other piece of personal property, can be disposed of by its owner.

And while it may be a symbol of many things relating to the US, the entire concept of symbolic speech is that it has the same scope of protection as verbal or written speech.

Maybe the people who burn flags feel that when the government trounces on your civil liberties then the flag is no longer a symbol of what it originally meant.

It is not authorized, but it is a freedom of speech, or protest.
Its only a symbol.
Burning it is a symbolic gesture of protest.
I would not burn one, but if I saw someone burning one, I would ask why. Perhaps they would say "In protest of high taxes".
Well, ok, thats their right. Not something I would do, but whatever turns 'em on.

No, you cant burn the white house. Thats not a symbol, thats a functional structure used for housing offices of government.
