I'm really struggling to understand what is probably very basic. I don't exactly understand covalent bonds (which I think can share molecules??) and how atomic masses work. Does anybody have any suggestions for me or a website that would help me? This isn't even a chemistry class, but I have to understand this stuff and I have NO chemistry background (well, 9th grade pre-chemistry, which I got a D in long ago). This is college level and most importantly my LAST course in order to graduate. ANY Help?????

Covalent bonding is the sharing of electrons, not molecules. That is basic, but you can get very deep.

Atomic mass is (basically) the sum of the neutrons and protons in the nucleus of an atom. Electrons have weight as well, but is is very miniscule compared to either protons or neutrons and are not considered in the weight.

The link has some basic info on how to get the atomic mass (step 4) of an atom and some other basic info.

AS mentioned, talk to the prof because he/she will guide you towards what you need to know. For example, someone on here could tell you how bonds can absorb energy, and how much energy is released when they break. But I think that is beyond a Bio class.

Before you run out and start buying chemistry books, go to your prof. and ask what he or she recommends. You are not the first to find yourself in this situation and won't be the last. Your prof. will be able to recommend some sources and can direct you as to what you need to know so you can maximize your study time.

Try getting a tutor. A lot of colleges have free tutoring services. This way you can learn exactly what you need without having to muck through a book.
