I get this on some cell phone connections - the echo is about 1/2 second long, so I am hearing my own voice speaking previous syllable or word. It's a problem in the system, with the carrier, and it's so annoying I usually hang up and call back. This cures it..

Often, during a telephone conversation, echoes are caused by the handset of the person you are talking to. It happens a lot on loudspeaker and mobiles (cellphones), this is because their microphone is picking up your voice from their speaker and relaying it back to you.

This is from someone using a speaker phone. The echo is reverberation from the speaker on the phone.

Do you mean on your cell phone? I get that all the time and it is annoying as all get out. I just tell the person on the other line that I will call them right back and it's usually gone.

If your of eastern decent or from NY your being tapped. Thats all it can be. We live in a time when all people from the eastern countries are going to be watched extremely close. None of them can be trusted. So our government is taking great care to monitor everyone who talks to anyone from the eastern countries.
