Human beings are scared of death because it's a lot to do with uncertainty. It speaks of a place where no one knows how it is like. You just have to die to experience that place.

But if you ask a christian if s/he is afraid, I am sure that person will say "I am not at all afraid of death because He has over come the world on the cross almost 2000 years ago." Even I want to have that assurance in life. But these cares of this world and the deceitfulness of the riches is pulling me down from reaching out to God.

Death is like a snake, or a spider. It depends on how you personally feel about the subject. Some can have a phobia, others will not. Me, I look at death like I do the spiders and snakes. It is something which is to be respected, not feared. Fearing it is a waste of life, since we all will die in our good time, sooner or later. Why waste any precious moments of life by worrying about something coming that will come, no matter what you do to prevent it. That is to say, while being cautious to ward off unnecessary death, you shouldn't lock yourself away in fear. Like the saying goes, "Only two things in life are certain, death and taxes".

I'm not scared of death. My life is complete. Sure there are things I'd like to do, but I'm not going to be upset if that doesn't happen.

Also, I have a relationship with a higher power. I know that there is purpose in whatever happens to me. My life, and my death, are for a reason.

man is scared of death not because fear of the unknown. But because of his ANXIETY of the unknown. If you don't know something , you don't fear it. A child won't fear fire , unless he know it. he will only be curious. It is anxiety. like when some people have to make a public speech for the first time in their life. They are not sure of what is going to happen. when they consider and addup the unknown possibilities , they get scared.

I am not afraid of death. it is going to happen sooner or later. Before my Mom died I told her I was scared to die, she looked me square in the eyes and said" Don't worry about death, it's gonna happen. Live your life to the fullest every day you can. if you spend the rest of your life worrying about it, how can you really LIVE? When it happens it happens, don't sweat it." She died 3 days later. Ever since then I have taken her advice and lived by it. Death is a finality that we cannot escape so why worry about it. Live it up while you can and if you're lucky enought to live for a 100 years good on ya but when it's my time I don't want to have looked back and wished I had done something that I didn't. Live it up folks! We get one ticket on this ride and you need to make the best of it!

Fear of the unknown, indoctrination that they might end up in hell, fear of finality. Personally I'm not scared to die at all and to some extent infinity scared me more than finality. Now I tend to think that eternity will probably have a lot of variation and likely a bunch of things we don't have here so there is a mild looking forward to that. Nonetheless I still have a strong drive to live, to do and see things that make life worthwhile.

Fear is the irrational emotion emitted when faced with the unknown. Is there no greater unknown than death. We can speculate to no end on what happens after death; however, there is no way to verify this speculation until one actually faces death.

Perhaps Hamlet said it best:

"...To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil..."

WOW deep question but i like to say something... man was not scared of BIRTH so why should we fear death??
The only reason we dont wanna die is because we will miss out and not see things... but we missed on things before birth and didnt care so i would actually say MAN SHOULD NOT BE AFRAID OD DEATH... !!!

I agree with the others. Man fears the unknown. And there are some who believe that they are more needed in the now than in the after.
