Could be a blocked fuel filter, but is most likely to be something related to the turbocharger.
It could be that the turbocharger itself is faulty (has the car been regularly serviced, with the oil changed at the required intervals?) or it could be a leak in the pipes between the turbocharger and the engine, so that the turbocharger is not having any effect.

I won't be spark plugs or carburettor as suggested by some answerers, as diesel engines don't have such things.

Perhaps it needs servicing. Jets could be blocked - putting fuel additive in (red-ex or a jet cleaner) may improve the situation. Or maybe the Ford Mondeo is naturally slow on acceleration!

Hopefully for your wallet's sake it just needs a service and perhaps air and fuel filter changes. It could be that the turbo is dead or on it's way out, especially if you have done a lot of miles.
If you are not sure, you should definitely take it to an independent garage and get it checked out - there is only so much people on here will be able to suggest!

Try dry gas, if it is unevenly idling, or a new gas filter. Could be spark plugs, too, if it's a sputtering poor acceleration. See a mechanic quick! If you don't repair the little problem, it could turn into a big one fast. Check your air filter too.
