If it's any consolation, my brother served out there as a battlefield medic for 6 months or so last year. My mum and dad were very worried indeed (so was I, I hasten to add), but he was fine - as are the majority of people.
In fact, he said he found it very boring and frustrating as there was actually very little to do in reality. He described it as a "surreal holiday camp."
I think it is true for most conflict zones - there maybe a few minutes or hours of intense fighting that troops are involved in, but it is mostly playing the waiting game.

Don't worry - I'm sure he'll be fine!

Have you tried your voulnteer network? In case you are new to the military game, it is a group (usually wives) who get together and help give each other support. If you are unsure who is in charge you can just call his command or base and they can give you more info. Also remember you can write letters, send e-mails. Some of the bases in Iraq even have it set up so the troops can use a web cam, so you can actually see them.

Hope for the best, preparer for the worst. WE have the best military in the world, we are the baddest of the bad. We are tough, and I know what you re going though! I was in Vietnam 1971-1972. I could have been killed, I could have been wounded. I am here now! An I hope your significant other will come home too. He is in a volunteer Army, and either way, he is the best of the best!
God save you!

They should not be there, they should NEVER have been there in the first place. They knew when they first went that it was an illegal action, but they chose to listen t the lying b******s who lead them.
So I agree, what do you want, a chocolate muffin?
