The green leaves have orange yellow splotches on them and on the reverse side of the leaf, opposite from the splotches is some pointy spikey things. Then the leaves turn brown and fall off. It doesn't seem to be affecting the apples at all. But there aren't many leaves left on it. Does anyone know what this is or what I can do about it.

This sounds like red apple rust. I have/had it too. The fungus has 2 forms. One is what you're seeing on the apple tree. The other form grows on Cedar trees. I have a number of Eastern Red cedar trees with these golf ball sized "nuts" on them that have a gooey fungus growing out. The fungus goes back and forth from the apple to the cedar. The trees are less 100 feet from each other.

If you want the apple tree, cut down the cedars. I cut the apple tree down because I have more cedar and there was only one apple tree.

I think you'll have to get rid of one or the other.

It does sound like a fungus, but someone would have to see a sample to be sure. Call the Extension Service of your state university. They will have a plant disease specialist on staff who will ask you to mail a couple of leaves for diagnosis and treatment. It's all free, paid for by your tax dollars!

Could be apple scab, frog eye spot, leaf rust, some kind of virus or ? Here's some websites that may help you identify it and treat it. I did a search on "apple tree leaf disease".

It's needs sprayed! And fast! Call your local extension office and have someone come out and check it or go to you local greenhouse and take a twig with a few leaves on it with you to show them what is wrong with the tree.

fungus. Spray it with Lyme Oil. Look on the back of containers on the pesticide aisle to make sure Lyme Oil is in it.
