Churches and graveyards are usually quiet, peaceful places, so I can see why you'd go there. Finding relaxation isn't easy in today's hectic world. There is something about those places that draws you to them and there are some interesting stories to be gleaned from reading headstones and plaques in churches. It's not weird at all.

I too like looking at old churches and graveyards-- not everyday, but if I'm near one on a day out, I might go and have a look. The church buildings are absolutely stunning and some of the architecture amazingly beautiful.
The different gravestones can be interesting, too. Not just the designs, but the age, and the information on the stones about the people laid to rest there. It is of historical interest. So don't worry-- I for one think you're normal!! :-)

You are correct, there is nothing weird about your fascination.
In the UK churchyards are where they bury or used to bury
their parishioners. It is a very big contribution to Heritage and
Culture. Also the minister kept the wedding records and some date
a long way back and it is a good source to find out who married who and when the event took place. Even some old churches in ruins,
the cemetery is still intact with the gravestones readable. This is
one of Britain‘s Heritage visiting places that should be conserved
everlastingly. Nothing is weird or spooky so keep up your habit
and someday you may all the wiser for having done so.

I love doing the same...maybe I am wierd lol. There are many reasons why I enjoy it. They are usually quiet comtemplative places where I like to get some relaxing stress free time. There is the historical thing of old gravestones, reading about the lives of the people buried there, the social history of the place. Lots of people go to look for their ancestors. I also like the plants and the overgrown natural feel in some of them, especially on a warm sunny day. Sorry. The sound of bumble bees buzzing, the wind rustling thru the trees and dandilion seeds floating thru the air is overwhelming me hehehhe

I love them also. I think they are awesome. So peaceful. I loved to sit in them and read a book, or take a long walk to find the oldest grave. I would love to buy an old church and convert it into a house. That would be cool too.

I avoid graveyards myself, but understand where you are coming from as far as the historical interest in it. You look at them and have a sense of wonder. You wonder what the person was like, how they lived, where they lived, what they looked like, and what they may have died from during that era.
It's not strange.
Enjoy it as a hobby!

That depends on what you're into. Are you interested in the people who are represented there, or the architecture of the headstones, or even something spiritual about it? For me it's the beauty of the cemetery itself as well as a curiosity of who the people were. And, you're right, there's also a strong sense of history there.

I find them fascinating too, it makes me think about the people in them and i often wonder how they died. Sometimes i get sad when i see that the residents were only young. It makes me think about my life and how vulnerable we all are. It kind of puts a lot of things into perspective. I don't think you're weird either, I would have to admit to it too wouldn't I.
