It's a 95 Mazda 626 4 cyl. engine and i sprayed some degreaser and washed, after that i turned it on and it died at a stop light. I checked the plugs for water and blew out whatever i could out of the spark plug holes. I drove it for 30 min. hoping that if it was water causing the problem it would dry off w/ the heat but the problem still remains..rough idle and car seems to bog down when accelerating. Any ideas? thanks

First of all if you are going to wash your engine you should leave it running while you are washing it. It sounds like its too late for that though. You most likely have gotten water on an electrical component of some type. If it is dieing after you get it started it could be your distributor cap, plug wires, plugs or any other electrical part. If it runs and looses power when accelerating though it is most likely a bad belt or you could have damaged the alternator. You could have gotten water in the fuel system also. To check the alternator, turn it on and have it parked where you can see the headlights shine. Then start turning on accessories and see if the lights dim. If they dim - it's either the alternator or belt. Check your local auto parts store to see if they run electrical diagnostics on car power systems. Most will do this for free now so they can sell you something. The test can tell you if it is your battery, alternator or something else. You have to be able to start the car and turn it off and restart it to use this test. Also a damp air filter can bog down a car, check to see if it got wet.

Check to make sure your spraying did not unplug a vacuum hose. Is the check engine light coming on? If so check it with a scanner. It could be there is moisture in one of the plugs to a sensor.

might be a either a leak in the exhaust or clogged up. if you want to see if the reason of idling due to the o2 sensor... disconnect the sensor and run it like that and see if the computer does a by-pass on the sensor to make it run better. for the belt, it actually does do that when any moisture hits the belt if any in fact did hit the belt.i would take the belt off anyway and check for any cracks. lot of times uneven slopes makes a belt squeal

Yes you got some water inside your distributor cap! Remove the cap and spray some carb-cleaner into it let it evaporate about 5 min then everything will be allright!

Distributor cap has gotten wet, allow it to dry for a while before trying to start the engine.

It sounds like you have moisture in the distributor system. WD-40 will displace moisture. If it has a cap you need to take that off and look in side, then blow that out.

the distributor cap has probobly gotten wet. just loosn attaching screws and dry out , dont know just a thought

I never use water to clean a motor. you now have electrical problems or you might have killed a sensor or two. Go get it checked thats all there is to it.

happened to me and it was a cracked distributor cap that allowed water to enter vital engine areas.

Hopefully you only goit the distriutor cap wet
