Some men are narcissists. These individuals have very low self-esteem, usually from some kind of abuse in their own childhoods, and they cope by creating a falsely inflated self and by looking to others for "narcissistic supply" -- admiration, attention, etc....To these individuals, everything is about them. Some will even that say that outright, with pride. They are highly manipulative and lack empathy. (As soon as the subject turns to you, they lose interest!)
If you think you might be dealing with a narcissist, there's a great online forum/support group, Narcissistic Personality Disorder Refuge (NPDR) at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NPDR
Abuse is not ok. It's not about how much abuse to take -- the answer is *none*.

That's probably part of it. Another reason is that there are too many women who do not have respect for themselves.
Some women are quick to rush into a relationship because they think they will be alone and won't take the time to find out what the man is all about. Then they see signs that he is abusive but they think they can change him.
And there are too many women that only see themselves as toys and trophies to men so that is how men see them.

Usually runs in the family.. they witnessed the behaviour as kids, and then re-enact it later in life.. learned behaviour. Same reason why certain women stick with abusive guys.

Hopefully you aren't being abused. They do have helplines. But if you are just asking, they probably saw people they know doing that when they were young or something.
I'm glad I'm not one.

It's because they think that they can get away with it, that it's somehow their right to belittle and abuse others. It's time for us stand up to them and not put up with it any more.
