Passing a law does nothing except bring more control over the innocent and put you at the mercy of the criminal. But, this what the government wants. People to live in fear and depend on the government to actually do nothing. True, when you get shot, you can die knowing that your government will prosecute the person IF they catch them.

When you think about it more laws and stiffer penalties would probably decrease gun violence. The problem is that the US already has a large number of people in prisons and any move to toughen criminal law and more mandatory prison sentences would only add to this problem. Prisons are prov-en incubators or crime. A person who may be salvageable as a person when they enter the prison system comes out even more dangerous that when he went in. There are success stories of course but it appears they are exceptions.
Tougher laws to restrict the sale of firearms would over a long time reduce the number of legal guns. The problem is there are enough guns to keep up the violence for many generations.
The root cause is social problems and a solution to these is going to take a monumental amount of work and money. The US social fabric is torn and shredded. The recent Conservative leanings only add to the problem when the philosophy is that the rich should get to keep more and the poor should just work harder. This is always good in theory but how does a family improve their lot when they are only surviving at a subsistence level and have no education.
Crime and feeding on their own is the only job in town and once into this life breaking away is all but impossible. I don't have any solutions to offer but the problem of why there is so much violence is evident and something needs to be done.

Much like the drug culture and controlling drugs, the more money that is spent in doing so, the least likely the law is to succeed.
Two things that cannot be controlled in the US, is the trafficking of illegal drugs and guns. The user will find drugs, no matter what. As it is now, he will commit a crime to raise money to buy drugs, so that only exacerbates the drug problem.
With guns, the perps all have them, it is the law abiding citizen who is being controlled in not owning guns. So, under these conditions, the perp is the boss of the streets. He whips out a gun and says, "give me your money", and the law abiding citizen does exactly as he says. What is wrong with this picture? It's designed for idiots! It is this type of nonsense that gets liberals elected to office by soccor moms. I say, enough! It's time to take back the streets!
Drugs should be legalized and treated the same way we do alcohol! Show up for work, drive, give it to kids, and you're busted! It will not increase usage by legalizing drugs, because those who are inclined to use this sh it, already are using it. Education, is the only defense against drugs. If that doesn't do for an individual, than he or she is pre-disposed to using it anyway , and you and I are not going to change that with this silly @ss drug program, today.

The government is run by terrorists, there is no reason to compromise with terrorists. They want guns banned because then they can impose tyranny on us. Just because you can't handle this truth does not change the facts. Look, even if the above statement is wrong, some crazy guy kills 20 kids, okay, so why punish everyone? Crazy people will use knives, or bombs, or, like the government has done, give 30,000 assault rifles to DRUG CARTELS! Don't you get it yet? There is no reason to limit the freedoms of law abiding citizens when it is the federal government that is the terrorist. Oh, you're right, it's the "muslims" right? And who is funding the muslims in Libya and Syria? The federal government!

Its a proven fact that where guns are legal to own and carry there is a much lower gun crime rate because the criminals are scared they don't know who is gonna shoot back. So to answer your question no tougher gun laws wont reduce gun crime it will probably increase it. No matter what the law says he criminals will have guns and the law abiding citizen wont be armed to protect themselves.

Nope, legislation alone cannot remove gun violence. If the law makers and enforcement get together to do something about the gun violence, then there MIGHT be less gun violence.

As with anything, the answer is somewhere in between those extremes.
Personally, I think firearm training and education should be MANDATORY. No, not on purchase of a first firearm, since that would be so damned tough to do. I mean IN SCHOOL. That way we know it'll get taught, and there will be far fewer accidental gun-related injuries and deaths.

No! More firearm legislation is a trick. It's a phony issue. Liberals want the government, and not the people, to own all the guns. Hmmmm.

Has all the gun laws and restrictions ever slowed down a criminal from using a gun?........NO!
Maybe we should try the conservative approach now. Enforce the laws we have.

A true saying is to take guns away from honest men only criminals will have weapons. Right to carry laws in FL and other states have been a success. I have one in TN.
