I thought it was rediculous that they kicked him off the team. Yes, he is past his prime, but he can still play.

No, I think it was quite unfair. Of course Beckham is not exactly what he used to be anymore, but kicking him out of the team was a bit too much. He was deffinitely not the worst in the team.
I mean he was just dropped, why didn't the coach started with him on the bench at first, and send him in later in the game. I kinda think McClaren was just trying to show that he's the boss now, he's changing everything and he has the guts to axe someone like Beckham. He certainly got everyone's attention with that move.

Steve McClaren was probably trying out the new team with the new tactics & approach, after all it was only a friendly match last Wednesday & most of the team are still exhausted after the World Cup & their club's pre-season friendlies.

i hope Beckham will return to the squad for the upcoming 2008 European Championship qualifier next month. never mind if he is no longer the captain, but his free kick & set pieces is greatly missed.

It depends. If Capello plays Van NIstelrooy and he drops Beckham, its a fatal mistake. Van Nistelrooy strives on delivery and services from Beckham like he did while both of them was still in Man Utd. If Capello plays strikers like Robinho or Ronaldo, who can create chances out of nothing, and he drops Beckham, then its no big deal.

But by dropping Beckham, Real are losing out in terms of Beckham's superb delivery from set-pieces.

He hasn't been himself this year. He IS getting old and just can't keep up. And they may have bickered quite a bit. Beckham won't do what he doesn't want to do which does no good for the TEAM.

No but then again I think Beckham is past his best now.
He had his best years at Man United.
I think he probably knew what was coming with Steve McClaren in charge and maybe thats why he resigned as England captain.
I really felt for him though when he made the announcement at the press conference.

i didn't like it myself. i was even praying england would mess up the friendly with greece so that mclaren would realize the folly of his ways but it didn't turn out that way, lol. still, it's too early to tell whether mac made a mistake in kicking him out. to be fair, the new first team looks like it's gelling well, terry really showed up with that 1st goal, stevie played fantastically as always and lampard was a lot more useful this time. but i really missed becks' panache in the set pieces. i thought some of it didn't play out so well or maybe it's just me, lol. Anyway, I’m hoping becks would still figure in the euro qualifiers. He has a few good years left in him assuming he stays fit, and well he did say he'd fight for his place in the team so i'm keeping my hopes up. I'm clearly biased, but i thought it was bit hypocritical for mac to say beck's being kept out because of his poor showing in the WC. I'm thinking if we keep to this reasoning then practically half of the team should be canned. I know becks isn't exactly the most talented player in the squad (gerrard is, imo) but he did score/set up some really decisive goals for england in the past and being forced out like this is just too humiliating. Becks has done his share for the team and the least they could do is give the guy a more graceful exit. Gratitude is always a good option, i think.

I wanna kick steve McClaren hard and get him out as a coach...i love beckham ...even though he had only one goal in his fifa 2006 ...he had the efficiency to prove more...ITS LIKE HOW GANGULY HAD BEEN KICKED OUT OFF THE INDIAN CRICKET TEAM...

well i first i thought it wasn't, but after watching the game vs greece, gerrard on the right looked brilliant, so i think it was right. however i think beckham will be in the squad for the euro 2008 and i still think he will get his hundred caps

I don't think they kicked him out! He's got an injury or something.... He will return, he always does! No Beckham, no sponsors!
