I still do it. Nowadays women and men are seen as pretty much exactly the same, which is definitely a good thing. But that also somehow lessens the need to give preferencial treatment to women in tems of bus seats, opening doors, queueing etc. I once offered to carry her suitcase, and she repllied "what you think that cus i'm a girl I can't do it?" so i quietly walked away. Very few men still do it and women are always impressed when you do it, but some women are crazy and call you a sexist for doing it.

That is an excellent question. I certainly do. To hold a door open for a woman and to let her go first is a sign of respect as well as personal character. It only takes a moment to treat a woman with respect and to be a gentleman. A true gentleman should enjoy the chance to treat a woman this way and not look upon it as a chore, duty, or even as a perfunctory exercise in ettiquitte.
I may sound old fashioned, but I'm in my 20's - so go figure. But regardless on how times may change, good manners don't go out of style.
Thanks for asking this question. I think it reminds us all how the little things count.

I love chivalrous young men! I don't care what all the feminists say, but men are built to be physically stronger than women. So when a young man offers to hold a door or carry something heavy, he is not implying that you can't do it yourself, but that he wants you save you the trouble and make your day flow a little smoother. Since the dark ages men were taught at an early age to put the women before themselves by going to war to protect them, providing food/income for their wives, etc. Regarding he young men at your school, I don't really understand why they would do that. Were your uniform skirts short? Perhaps it was a small misunderstanding? Whatever the case, it is a bit of a slip-up on the boys' part.

Yes. I certainly do even after several sneers from 'new' women. I always offer my seat to a female and consider women special. I think that the mystery has gone out with feminity. As a man I have always said that 'a woman is often the best man for the job' and fully agree with no job being beyond them. I just wish that in Golf they would play from the Men's tees if they want full equality.

I hold the door for everyone, man or woman because I'm a gentleman. When ordering at a restaurant it's ladies first of if I was on a sinking ship then yes children and ladies first.

That's a stupid cliche. Yes they are and I think its a bit sexist. We are now equal in this modern world. If women wants us to do that sort of thing then feminist should keep there mouth shout but I know women who are much smarter than that. Though it is nice to show your WAG you love them so much and its nice to be a gentlemen but why should you love your WAG more than they love you. Its not manners because you wouldn't dot it for everybody maybe it was back in 1952 but not now.Frankly I don't do it for my girlfriend......Shes more independent and modern then some women here who just love it when a man goes Ladies First. We show our love equally, we buy each other presents, we buy each other dinner and we write each other cards etc. We meet in the middle and that's how it should be.

at 52 I still open doors for ladies, even with my wife. Even as a couple, we'll let a lady in through the door before us. This was the way I was taught as a kid.

It's hard to find that all are really open doors for Women. But one can find such people in some Sentimental Countries like India. There the people really respect Women and give them a chance to enter "Frist" ... So, if you really want to experience yourself, Visit India. And clear your doubt meeting very nice people who maintains good family and human relations...
