Radar detectors are not legal in all the 50 States. I use the Escort Pasport 8500. Just because I some times drive a little to fast. However the local powers to be decided to equip the school buses with x-band radar transmitters so the buses would set off those detectors. People might drive more cautiously around the buses. This rendered My detector ineffective because you never know how many buses there are until they put radar beacons on every one. the detector is alerting every couple blocks Brilliant! Speed cameras, Don't you think the word traffic offense means you have to offend some person bad LAW bad LAW. Now I can say red light cameras reduce traffic accidents.

what the problem is anymore with radar detectors is something the cops use called, "instant on radar". Instead of transmitting a continuous radar signal, which in the past gave detectors plenty of time to alert you. todays units transmit a " pulsed type of signal " which doesnt give the best detectors a fighting chance to do much good anymore. Sure, your detector alerts you, but its too late, you were already in the radars range of effectiveness. Motorcycle cops ? they stand there with those radar "guns". they simply wait until they see you, the very second he pulls the trigger on that gun, hes got your speed. Plus he hears a doppler tone, so hitting your brakes real fast is pointless, as you rapidly decrease your speed, the pitch on his gun also drops, he knows exactly what your trying to do.Speed and red light cameras, believe it or not, there is a spray available that you coat your license plates with, its clear, and undetectable to the naked eye. However when these "high tech" systems attempt to capture your plate number, all they see is a flash of distortion where your numbers are. Also, there are clear plastic covers available, which may even be somewhat better, however at least in california, are illegal. I know the spray works, I have it on my plates, so do my friends. Hope that I could help. And keep fighting the system bud.

in general radar detectors are ineffective. Save your cash and drive the posted speed. Is getting to your destination 7 minutes sooner worth a 200 or 300 dollar fine?

Get a satnav that has the cameras in its memory, but remember that if any are added, the unit won't know! So, protect yourself, but drive legal. It's the only way to keep your licence.

No idea, but aren't they illegal anyhow, cheaper to drive safely and not get a ticket than to pay a fine for illegal Road Angels.
