Asian people use ear pick. This device allows the wax and soap residue to be pulled out of the ear canal instead of pushing it further back in. I do not know where to purchase this item. I received one as a gift many years ago. The best places to ask are places that sell Asian 'stuff' :-) There are many variations of ear picks. Pick one that lets you pull.
I found a picture here:

The one I have is made of metal, smaller, and has no lighting capability.
* My science teacher in high school said many years ago that the maker of Q-tips would someday be sued because the product they sell causes many people to have ear infections. If you are using Q-tips, read the label carefully to make sure that it claims to remove wax. Also, ask a doctor when you have a chance about how safe it is to use Q-Tip and if it is the best option to clean your ear.

Squirt warm soapy water into your ear with a syringe ( no needle! ), have you head tilted down so the water can flow freely back out. Do this several times to clear the ear canel of wax.

Drops - either from chemist or olive oil will do 2-3 drops for 10 minutes at a time - nothing else should go in your ear - if still blocked see your doctor to have syringed

You don't need to clean your ears, it naturally cleans itself. It's
true swabs can damage your ear. If you must clean your ears
after all you've heard, then I suggest an Ear Wash. (sold over
the counter)

I use hydrogen peroxide and a rubber syringe. Hydrogen peroxide is very similar to the stuff in earwax removal kits. Do a search and you'll see. Don't put soap or anything like that in your ear. Trust me.
Government website on using hydrogen peroxide for earwax removal:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000979.htm
CNN:
http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/library/DS/00052.html
Just remember to flush out the peroxide with warm water after you use it.

ideally u need not to clean ears beacuse ears have self cleaning mechanism so it removes wax from inward to outward by centrifugal movement of small cilia (hairs)....only in case of excess wax u can use medicated wax cleaner containing wax dissolvent like waxiklin..waxoclear...or consult ur ENT specialist....and dnt use hydrogen peroxide, it can harm ur ear drum.
