First, buy a new one. Check your system at this website: http://www.coastmemory.com
Turn the computer over. You will see a small door that is held closed with a small screw. Simply remove that screw and your memory module should be visible. If your computer has two slots, you will see this. Two tiny tabs lock the memory module in place. Just squeeze them in and the memory should rock forward about 30 degrees. Then you can pull it straight out.
Good luck

Many laptops have much less chip pluged on a socket compared to desktops. Depending on the brand/model and date of manufacture this changes but you can only depend on flash rom to be socketed, RAM isn't a chip but a small PCB with IC's on it. If you want to change/add RAM it's easy. If a soldered chip on your laptop mobo needs to be replaced and you are sure that this is the only damaged part (and all the surrounding resistors, capacitors and transistors are working) you can try to find an absolute exact of that chip (laptop technical services have disfunctional of any models of their support for spare parts) and try to replace it yourself. As the pins are extremely small and close together, you can't use common soldering techniques and tools.

It is mostly under a cover that is screwed to the bottom of the laptop. Most laptops only have room for one chip so you will have to replace it instead of adding on like yu would in a PC.

We took my daughter's computer to the Geek Squad at BestBuy and had them replace the memory that came in the computer with new memory chips so that she has more than 1G memory now. It didn't cost a lot of money for the two new memory chips and their service
