It's good to have a loving partner. He/she will be your moral support in everything you do as well as your companion for life and a best friend. If you have a loving partner you do not need many friends.
Being on your own is less advantageous. You'll have to bear all the burdens of life alone. Friends have families of their own and can't be with you all the time. Being alone can get you down. However, being alone is still better than being with a jerk of a partner, good for nothing partner or abusive partner. It's a matter of relativity.

There is no reason why you can't have both. I found after I got divorced, I needed to learn to be content and make myself happy. When I did that loving partner came my way. Sometimes it is a process of learning about yourself, meeting needs which will open the door for more to come in your life.

It's great to have a loving partner in a relationship but I find that a person who is afraid of being alone to be a bore. A person so needy tends to smother a person and it usually makes your partner feel trapped. Learn to enjoy your own company. You'll be better company for someone else.

Both, as there are periods in our lives when we need to learn to be comfortable with our own company and times when we need love in our lives. It is said that we have to know ourselves, be comfortable and love ourselves before we can love someone else. It is good to have a loving partner to share life's ups and downs with rather than 'going it alone'. I have experienced both and I much prefer it now I have a lovely husband to share my life with.

having a loving partner doesn't necessarily mean you return that love... if you do then it's fulfilling and much preferable to being on your own... but if you don't then you will be a happier person once you've learnt to be content on your own...
