Whatever you do, don't install NetVenda! It's a hijacker and you will be hacked if you do!

While it may be possible for an expert to tell if you're being hacked, it's well beyond the ability of the average user. A good cracker will leave little behind in the way of tracks and won't do anything that will significantly slow your system down.

System slowdowns and heavy internet activity are signs of virus or spyware infection, not "hacking" per se.

Your best defense against crackers is to use a firewall, both a hardware firewall connected to your broadband connection and a software firewall running on your PC. The software firewall on your PC is especially important if you are using an unsecured wireless connection.

NetVenda is a good application. It tells you which connection are suspicious, and blocks them. When someone has hacked into your computer, depending on how he do it, you will recieve high internet connection volume (Even though, you are not using it) or your processor speed will be much higher than usual.

The most important thing, when you find that your computer is getting hacked, is to close your internet connection. Upon doing that, the hacker cannot get you temp. If by closing your internet connection, your processing speed has decreased significantly, it means that you are being hacked. Then, try to stay off the internet, for a few days.

When your computer suddenly becomes very slow, it takes forever to shut down or you are suddenly getting a lot of popups when you didn't before... those could all be signs of someone else using your computer.

I highly recommend going to Tweak XP. Follow their directions EXACTLY for whatever operating system you use.

They will have you download programs that will clean your computer and then protect it. The programs are all free and it will take some time to complete depending on your connection speed, but if you want to clean and protect it's worth the time.

Get going and good luck!
