If you watch old Disney movies the songs are a lot of fun - think Bare Necessities or Everybody Wants To be a Cat. Today they are all non-descript rubbish, aren't they?. The only exception I can think of is in Jungle Book 2 - there's a Big Band style number called the Jungle Rhthm that's incredible.

LOVE THIS QUESTION. It does strike a chord, and how.

Reason is simple. By the mid-1960s Walt the IDEA man, passed away. He had approval/veto power on all material. Brother Roy was the green eyeshade man, didn't count.

Once the animating spirit had left the few old school artist stayed on for a decade or so. It all went to hell after that. I was shocked by Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and Witch Mountain at the time, little did I imagine...

Look back on the old work with love and fond memory, friend, it's all the reward we've got. But it suffices.

Don't miss "So Dear to my Heart" 1948 (?), it will blow your socks off !!!

I worked for Dizzy Anaheim from 71 to 81.

I personally think Disney has really lost its way in recent times- they used to produce fantastic cartoon films with charismatic, loveable characters- each of their productions was evidently a work of pride- someone had really put a lot of effort into the storyine, characters, animation, etc.

Lately the films haven't had the same feel to them- they seem really rushed and haven't got that same classic feel to them as some older Disney films.

Just a few recent Disney creations that I've been less than impressed by recently are:

Ice Age 2: The Meltdown
Cars
Chicken Little

Disney has made some great films, both cartoon-animated and computer-animated (some favourites of mine range from the classic Snow White to Monsters Inc.), but I think lately they have become lazy-- they are promoting far less of their cartoon-animated films and don't seem to be putting the same effort in as they used to, which is a shame.

I personally really hope that Disney starts creating more cartoon-animated films, I think it's a real shame that the only (or, the large majority of, I should say...) cinema releases these days their computer animated movies...

Disney needs to strip back to basics and do what they're best at doing- creating classic, loveable characters, partnered with well thought-out storylines, morals, great music and general family-aimed entertainment... stop trying to be so flashy with all of this computer rubbish and focus on the bottom line- making good quality, last-the-test-of-time type films.

Because Walt Disney is no longer living for one thing. Things have changed too, and Disney has a partnership with Pixar. Movies in general are going away from much music, especially cartoons. It's probably because most of those who watch the cartoons are children who get bored with a lot of songs.
I have liked Walt Disney classics since from the time I was 10 to the present. When I was under 10 I was bored with them because of too many songs.

I vote for Disney hasn't had any truly new ideas for anything in a long time, unless it is with Pixar. I am truly tired of seeing Bambi 2, Lilo and Stitch 2, Cinderella 2, etc. Yikes! Maybe it has gotten harder since they have been doing it for so long, but someone out there has to have better ideas for music and for movies.

Thats because Disney is a movie production agency. They produce movies, not music. They used to, but its sort of hard to make music and a movie at the same time.
