Of course it can. Islam is the second largest religion in the world. Most people generally rely on 1 media source for their information and come up with wierd theories. I would say nearly 1 out of 30 muslims is one who is intolerant and cant stand one insult to their religion. Compare that to the israelis who treat the arabs like dogs. Palestine was a place where everyone used to go to (whether christian muslim or jew) before isrel came along. Now israelis treat all arabs who go there how the americans used to treat blacks and nothing is said about it. Many jews are helpful but there is a minority which is intolerant. Islam is actually a peaceful religion but the politicians and sheikhs interpret it wrong and spread the word to a couple of hundred people who become extremists. You think hamas is an islamic jihad just to force the jews to become muslims! No they just want their land back (even agreed to 1967 borders). The only crazy main muslim leader is Bin Laden who is hated by many muslims. Personally i dont believe exactly in islam but many of my friends are muslims and they are more peaceful than many pepoele i know.

Every country or race can play a major role in World peace. Islam is making a contribution, but wether its a negative or positive contribution really depends on who you ask. The same could be said, however, of most of the major players. At this point I don't think world peace is at the top of any major players agenda. To be realistic I would have to say I think the major players are more interested in being "King of the Castle!"

Well if power comes from religion, yes of course it can. And power is the problem, just like any other warring that has gone before. The human race is very ignorant in many ways, we are all to blame, and not everyone can be a leader. Leaders are chosen for intelligence, maturity, commitment and passion. You have all heard of 'passion kills' and that is what exactly is happening here ..... we need to dampen the passion first ..... literally quench the thirst of those extremists who believe that it is right to let their passion lead to death and slaughter. They are so sadly misguided ... their very existence relies on their own survival .... do they seriously want to lose that? We must learn to dampen tempers, kill that zealous passion and mediate with everyone. That is the only way ..... that can be done through effective leadership, education about each other and sharing the world instead of killing it off. But, Muslims must share their fellows beliefs as well ..... they cannot expect tolerance if they fail to give it. The world continues to mature but not always globally .... lets spread that maturity and enrichment into each other .... by education and more education. If God exists, in whatever form, he would applaud this ..... and he must be allowed to mingle in the hearts of everyone.

Yes! It can start by keeping better company. The Iran/Russian romance is an example of that. Russia is up to no good, so it stands to reason they will help arm Iran for the following reasons:1) Iran has lots of money spend and Russia is capable of making lots of military hardware. 2) They have a common enemy, the US, and Russia will help anyone who is an enemy of the US.

As long as Iran is out there, stirring the pot, there can be no peace for Islam or the world.

any power that is growing needs to be pro peace.Islam as i know it ( i am not a Muslim ) is not a religion of hate red. it is a miss understood religion and a misconceived idea logy . I have seen Malcolm X and i think that this religion needs to be marketed the right way .

if the power of Islam is growing and the number of Muslims around the world is high .. then we need as Occidentals to understand this religion and ideology instead of claiming that they are "fascists " described by our president , may god bless him heheh..

i have seen on 60 mins an interviewee with the Iranian King Ahmad naged, i have seen him talk and i have seen him raising issues that when i thought of and mulled over i realized he has an argument that needs to be discussed and understood .

and yes i guess Islam can play a very active role in peace keeping , if we would only give them a good reason to be pro peace

Of course it can. People must accept that while terrorist are committing atrocities in the name of Islam what they are doing actually goes against what the faith believes in. All faiths have extreme believers who manipulate religious belief for their own gain. A better understanding of the positive aspects of all religions could only be in the interests of world peace.

YES, definitely, it is a peaceful religion and the 3rd testament from Allah (SWT) after Turah (Jews book) & Enjeel (Christians book).
Muslims never commited genoside, occupations, nuclear attacks, destroying indegenous civilizations and creating 2 WWs like other nations.
The recent backlash from Muslim against European invadors is very natural because those people are coming to Arab & Muslim world to invade and kill like Palestine (Occupied since 1918), Bosnia 1992, Iraq 2003, Sudan (civil war since 1955, Civil war feuled by UK & US).
