Alkali is correct in Enlish. Alkaline is NOT correct.
Alkali refers to the metals Lithium, Sodium, Potassium, Rubidium, Cesium, Francium.
Alkaline refers to the Alkaline Earth metals Beryllium, Magnesium, Calcium, Strontium, Barium, Radium.
But both Alkali and Alkaline Earth metals form "alkaline compounds", which means that they are basic and form compounds in water that have pHs above 7. This may create some confusion.
In French alkali is l'alcali.
In German alkali is Alkali.
In Spanish alkali is el álcali.
