It's strange... 9 planets.... wow it will be so odd with planets beyond Pluto. And am I the only one to see the Venus is not in the line up anymore.... or did they rename that planet?

Pretty soon the IAU (International Astronomical Union) will be meeting in Prague to decide the fate of Pluto, Charon, UB313, and Ceres. In the proposal Pluto, Charon, and UB313 will become plutons and Ceres (with the diameter of 590 miles) will be recognized as one very large asteroid. I don't think there will be too much change in our lives if these bodies are demoted or upgraded. The major change would be that a lot of textbooks, charts, etc. will have to be changed. Personally I would like to have Pluto remain a planet, and have Charon, UB313, and Ceres be upgraded. I think, though, that because of tradition, and the teaching of the nine planets since 1930, people are reluctant to add or subtract the number of planets.

ok, hi i m an ameteur astonomer & m also a part of the s.p.a.c.e organisation, i would be grateful to tell you that till this very date adding the three other bodies into our solar system is just a proposal. there is a meeting going on at theNASA and it may get over the next month and also the 76 countries that are participating in the meeting are to hear this proposal next week. till then there is no change in the status of our solar system.
and as far as astologers r concerned, they say that this would bring about changes but not immediately, after a few hundred years.

I always considered Pluto a part of the solar syatem and that charon should be one .
But the last one is just too incomprehensive to be classified as one of our solar system because
there is no visual studies of it rotating around our sun . Not a feesable choice .

It'll change many things. In India all the "jyothists" will go hay wire and star an unending strike, all textbooks will change and be rewritten till the next planet is discovered, and guess what, people will start buying plots of land in Mars!

Its great to have 3 more planets in our solar system, out of which 2003UB313 and Charon were once considrered to be the moons of Pluto. But they are finally given the status of planets. According to me, these planets can help us in our future space researches.

I'm a bit concerned about how they will affect our astrological charts.
