Why are Indian women so obsessed with fair skin than the women of any other country? I know that most women in Sri Lanka, Thailand, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea and even Mexico also like pale skin, but they are not so obsessed with it as the Indians. The youg ones who are dusky-skinned get depressed and feel inferior as a result of this, and suffer badly when it comes to finding suitable marriage partners for themselves.

Because it the past the lower casts were usually darker and the higher casts (Brahmins) were more white in complexion, most likely the result of doing no physical outdoor labor. Now, it is thought of as looking wealthy, and of a higher caste when one has a more fair complexion.
I find it silly. I am white but sometimes hate the skin of us white people. We go in the sun for all but 15 minutes and turn bright red, and have premature wrinkling as a result of the burns. Many Americans, including myself like to go tanning, to achieve a darker, more "healthy" complexion.

indian women r brought up to b'lve that fair skin is the first requirement to being beautiful..n it begins from there......
