world peace can only be achieved if all religions relinquish all notions of exclusive validity since this is the cause of radical elements wrecking havoc among others who dont believe in the same tenets....an unlikely prospect since it would make them all irrelevant

Islam is the only religion that teaches the meaning of peace. More over, it is the only religion which is spreading very fast in the world due to its peaceful teachings. What we need is that we shuld study the teachings of islam seriously and stop misuse of this religion. In this way I dont see any other religion which can play as much role as Islam in the world to give the message of peace.

Yes, as can all religions, and that's what it needs! However, much of the unrest in the world today is not caused by true believers as almost all faiths call for peace, tolerance, forgiveness etc. The instigators are generally misguided fanatics who are not really sincerely religious but who have their own agenda, possibly spurred on by others who want to cause trouble but are too cowardly to do the deeds themselves. EVERYONE, whatever religion, creed or culture needs to play a role in world peace.

Yes, I believe Islam can play a major role, but if Islam does, then there will be something/someone else causing trouble ! Unfortunately, unless we're invaded by Aliens ..we will never get together, or be at peace with each other ! It's human nature...sad isn't it?

It has to. It cannot be ignored! I am not a Muslim, but Islam is growing in importance. There will be no peace until every religion can get on together. And by the way, Islam teaches tolerance doesn't it?

if we understand what is the meaning of Islam and what is been taught in holy Koran..... then i think there will be no wars or terrorist Attacks in the world. Now a days a bunch of foolish guys who doesn't even know what is Islam and what it preaches , think they are the Islamic fighters and go on carrying terrorist activity which is a SIN in Islam. Islam is peace it preaches us of how to live in peace and harmony with our brotherhood. In Islam the first thing said is killing of innocent people is the worst sin which Allahsubhanutaalla will never forgive......

yes it can ... but the thing is if the people who had his beliefs and they are squared like the jihad , hezbollah etc etc etc islam cant play a major role, if all the people who are in the islam act as the holy kuran say u must act everything would be different, im catholic, but i have many friends who practice islam, and i have read the kuran not all but i have read a bit and its a great book is the bible for the muslims and its a wonderful book, if we all could respect all the religions things would be differents, and if people cant be so squeare like the hezbollah, jihad etc etc terrorism wouldnt exist...and because they have missunderstood the holy kuran, they are doing the wrong things..if they do what the kuran preach ...it would be so different.......

Replace "Islam" with "Peace" in that quote, which, btw, means the same (Islam is drived from Salam, which is Arabic for Peace), and you have the answer

It could and make a fine job of it, if only the countries of Islam could learn to live together and form a union.
As a non religious person, I am under the impression that religion causes most of the conflicts in this world.
Let us consider why RELIGION was INVENTED? it was invented to allow the ruling minority to have control over the majority. just look back to the many gods before the one god theory.
