When I am asleep, I am either "ASLEEP" or dreaming!
If you mean cant move in a dream I am having while asleep, yes I have had that... or when I wake up and I am kinda paralyzed and cant move... yes :P that happened too

The explanation that I heard was that essentially part of your brain wakes up before the rest and that it's scary but generally not anything to worry about.

yeah, so far i remembered one.. but i wasnt too sure it was real or it was a dream... It was pretty creepy.
I have not much knowledge about the scientific explanation behind it. But theres another school of thought in dis matter, its due to the spirit... Like sometimes they sorta like disturb us or something.
Maybe there are two types of it, one its wat we know as sleeping paralysis and another one with regard to the unknown forces. My fren was experiencing it due to the later.
Anywayz, its nutin to be scared of.

yes u feel helpless this means it symbolic that in ur life u are trying and in ur dreams u feel frozen can't yell /speak /move/ u lock up this is meaning u are feeling that u are losing control in some area of ur life .. its scary.. but then u wake up and know u have to try hard to grain control ..

yeah I have had that sensation so much so that I felt as though there was weight on my chest that I couldn' t move
