If you don't do it, you will never know what would have happened if you had!
Go. Take your time with this girl. If it is true love then great; if not you will have visited a fabulous country with wonderful people and traditions (although there is a great divide between the have and have nots). The fact that you are over six foot will only mean that you will be able to see over everyone's head in a crowd (very useful when seeing how long the queue for the ferry is). The fact that you are black should not matter a jot - I certainly never saw any sort of prejudice during my travels - but then I am white and this was a while ago.
Have a good time.

There are so many filipinas married to an american in the US. Why don't you check it out first how their lives going on. Before you judge a Filipina, know her first. Sometimes Filipina feels the same way as you do, so if she asked money from you maybe she is just testing on what extent of patience and love you can give to her. Remember distant relationship is hard to manage. If you are a doubting guy, better not plunge into this kind of relationship coz this will only cause problem. And don't generalize all Filipinas because i am also Filipina who has principles, educated and trying to uphold what i believe is right. If you want a decent Filipina, try looking for an educated one. But I bet hard to find one coz all educated Filipinas have high standards in choosing men. So where will you go?

Its sad, but there's truth to your claim. However, not all Filipinas are like that.
Yes, the government is in total mess, national security is always on alert, and 70% of the population is poor and starving.
But Filipinos are the most hospitable people in the world. They treat foreign nationals with utmost respect. Especially the folks from the villages, they are friendly and really accomodating. City folks can be a little rude and brash, so steer away from those suspicios-looking locals, and beware of the taxi drivers, most of them would extort you to poverty.
About the Filipina you like, I think if she's putting so much effort in calling you, she may be worth the try. Better yet, get to know her more.
If you're planning to visit the Philippines, this is not the best time to go. Visit during the Christmas holidays. The weather and mood is great during that season.
Good luck and God bless.

I LIVE in Cebu, Philippines 1/2 the year and am not asian by ethnicity. Other 1/2 in US where I'm a citizen.
On the one hand, Phils woman are EXTREMELY romantic. Their relattionship means so much.
On the other, family is EXTREMELY important. Therein lies a problem. What comes first? If you marry a Filipino you have wed her familiy as well and be sure you are able to support them two.
But as someone who runs a company here and sees dozens of couples that art 1/2 from each country and someone who knows the people from running this country and meeting people out of work: most of all you need to come here and spend a lot of time with this woman.
Is she in Manila? Then be very careful about safety. Most other places you will very safe. In 12 months of living here I have not had 1 problem...and I stand out. I'm a perfect target if someone knows who I am and wants to rob.
If anything you need to spend MORE time with some you marry who is from a foreign country. There is more to learn from her than if she where American. There are fabulous woman here...some of them work in my office and I know them very well and trust them more than if they were American employees.
But think about what you are "offering". Are you far less attractive and far less interesting then people they might be with here because they are a great "catch"? PROBLEM....when you go back to US.
Are you bringing them into an environment where they can excel in a way they never thought imagingable and yet you do not need to be part of that equasion? PROBLEM.
I you spend the time with someone you can see how genuine they are, but even then, know that the success rate of inter-racial marraiges is poor. I should know, I'm married to someone from Japan, and that was on my mind before we tied the knot. Now we are very happy. It worked!

damn! damn! damn! I'm sick and tired of topics about filipinas and money. i feel sad for that matter. but still.... i'm gonna tell you what i think. :)
again, this happens not only with a filipina. it's just that a lot of men are also looking for them.... heehee. i know why, because they think they can be the good and the conservative wife, right? Yes that is true but unfortunately you cannot avoid meeting the bad ones. life in the philippines for a typical filipino is hard. most of the filipinas who look for foreigners are those from the provinces because life there is much harder compared to the city. if city cannot even provide jobs, how can they find one for themselves. some didn't get education that's why they can't apply for work too. to get easy money, what would they do? of course sell themselves. so others instead of doing that, they look for husbands. since filipino men know their kind, they will not get noticed. some flipinas find filipino men poor so they will find someone who is not. if around the country they will look for mixed ones. but if they have the american dream, they will just open the computer then find someone who can give that to them. some filipinos are blinded by the american dream, thinking that whatever is america, it must be good. they didn't realized that there are americans who are also living a normal life and working their butt off to survive. So when you come to the philippines, it's better to find someone when you arrive than online. it's not that every filipina is lying everytime they chat. there are still who are sincere, you just need luck. never give money while you're in the US or when you arrived. This filipina you are referring to might be someone good we never know, so it's not bad to know her, just don't give in that easy. you might get trapped. lol. if you find her not what you've expected, pack your bags and go back to the states. besides filipinas are everywhere if you really want to find one...

Well obviously, if there soliciting sponsorship or quick marriages over the internet, thats the ones you want to stay away from. I know it paints a bad image on the typical filipina but take into consideration about the hardships they are going through with poverty, lack of jobs(opportunities), corruption, etc...their just trying to survive like everyone else but in a more unconventional way.
I'm glad to hear you hav'nt lost your interest in a filipina and if its love and a real relationship that your looking for, I urge you to be cautious of the "fake" ones who are just looking for a free ride...
With your height and skin color, the filipinos will be very intimidated by you but will give you the superstar treatment..

the great majority of filipinas on chat sites frequently have several men in their sights, you would have to be lucky to find one that didn't, that's just a symptom of their poverty . I have no problem with a girl marrying an old guy just for a better life as long as they both understand the deal and keep to their promise. Best advice? check out a yahoo group site like Philipine Living Island Paradise, there's lots of ex pats who can answer all your questions.

Scamming Kanos ( Americans ) is big business here in the Philippines. If you are sending her money, her and her boy friends are living large on your money. FOOL ! Filipinas work the inter net for money like going to the office. They will spend 10 hours a day or more sending emails and chatting .
I live here and I see it all the time. Filipinos are taught that it is better to lie, cheat and steal than it is to work. That is why 30, 000,000 of them live in abject poverty.

I know a Black dude at work who married a Filipino woman.
They have a new baby together and they will eventually have her
relatives (daughters, sisters, can't remember) brought to the
U.S. He has been with Black women but says his woman is no
knucklehead. She works, been to college and all.
I don't think Filipino women are any more money hungry than
American women, they just want a better life for themselves and their children. There are some who will use you for what they can get out of you just as there are American women who will do the same. Just be cautious. Good luck.

Yes sir. I'm afraid it really is that bad there. They would rather hook up with ANY man - as long as he can get her to this country. I know friends in Manila and other cities there, they even have websites and message boards to help these "Gold panners" or "Gold diggers" to win over their men and also advice when they meet with immigration officials!
Here is an example of a headline I read recently:
"How do I ensure that embassy will give me visa?"
Answer: Tell the embassy staff that you love him (him, the man who she's gaffed)!
Seriously. It's a scary deal. It's possible to find a true love there, but you're more than likely going to get burned. Also keep in mind, they don't just find ONE sucker to send them money. It's not uncommon to have four, five, six, or more on the line at the same time.
