Were there any tell-tale signs while your child was growing up that made you suspect your child might be gay?

Thanks for all your responses. This was pretty much a hypothetical question thou, cos I only have a 8.5 month old daughter and needless to say there are no signs as yet!! \however an old friend of mine has a delightful 15 year old boy and he is quite iffeminite in his behaviour (wrong spelling?) and I have often wondered if he might be gay. I suspect his mum has often wondered the same.

Her lack of interest in the opposite sex! Her collection of music mainly by 'gay' bands or strong female singers. Her refusal to wear anything 'girlie'. Her frank discussions!
She told me when she was 14 but I had already guessed, but waited for her to come to me. Be supportive and reassuring whatever the outcome.

I am not a parent of a gay child but I will tell you what I know (I suspect we are around the same age). Sometimes there are telltale signs of gender inappropriate behavor (according to our society's standards anyway), but overall, this is not a solid indication. Perhaps the best indication is that the child has no apparent interest in the opposite sex (romantically or sexually) during pre-adolescence and adolescence. Now gay people can have lots of "cross-sex" (opposite sex) friendships during their school years, but they are platonic only. I would say that at times too, just seeing who your child has as friends could indicate something about his or her emerging sexual orientation. Gay people tend to be friends with other gay people (men or women) or those who they suspect might not be totally straight (bisexual) or at least those who fully respect them for who they are, unconditionally. Don't push for an admission from your child on this sort of thing though. If it's true, you will know about it sooner or later. Another thing: Be prepared for the fact that your child may not be gay or straight at all; he or she might be bisexual.

i imagine no remember what it really is a 50/50 danger. in truth I have a chum and she has 2 moms, yet she's thoroughly right now. Come on, even as's the most suitable time you met someone who grew to develop into something purely because their mothers and fathers were in recent times, except faith, or perhaps then, i don't believe of doing because you've been raised that way extremely counts as faith, purely habitual. in truth, through the time maximum folk come across their actual sexuality, kids, they hate their mothers and fathers and favor to be the precise opposite. Beside, in view that even as became it ever undesirable to augment your toddlers along with your own beliefs and pleasures. An artwork instructor is unquestionably going to prepare her childrens to entice. A baptist is unquestionably going to target to make their childrens baptist, its what we do and its large! this is how way of existence receives handed alongside. hence, certain i imagine gays create a gay proned surroundings for a baby, does it artwork. No, they're nevertheless going to do what they prefer.

Im not a parent, or gay, but i have gay friends.
Ive known afew, since school, and most of them had no siogns at all, we would just get informed one day, that they were gay, live with it or not....
One guy tho at about 18 started to mince.... an uglyish type word i know, but i have none better.
At 28, people keep popping up, and deciding they are gay, and i would say the only possible signs are choice of clothing, or cleanliness for guys.....

And you didnt ask.. but.. gay is fine.. gay is great.. being different, is part of the struggle of life, and this is a head start, not a set back.

I'm not a parent, but I thought maybe I'd give some of the clues I can think back on and see.

When I was little, after I learned about marriage, my Barbies got married and slept together. I was also convinced that women could marry other women and get pregnant without the help of a man (something about women having one sperm, or something like that- I don't know, it was 7-year-old logic).

That probably helps absolutely none, though. ;)

I'm not a parent, but a queer transwoman that has come out to a family that told her that they already knew/already suspected something. One of my cousins knew that something was different about me when I was about 4. My dad and stepmom thought that I might be a gay guy years before I told them. My sister also replied with an "I know" but we never really went into that.

Being effeminate doesn't mean you're gay, I never really did anything effeminate and I'm gay.

Just so you don't assume your son or daughter is gay because they're being effeminate, it could be a bad mistake. Wait for them to find out on their own.

Sorry, my son isn't old enough for me to see any signs, but I know for a fact my mom knew. She knew big time, but, like me, she was in deep, deep, denial. She was in such denial, that even when I came out to her, she said okay, but sometimes she still tries to point out cute guys to me, or set me up on dates and stuff. It's a trying process, but we're still working through it.
