Depends, if you have valuables or something that was passed on through the family and you want them to go to a certain person than yes, but if its just you or, you don't have anything worth real value or worth passing on then it really doesn't make a difference. A will does help sort things out when you pass and it makes things easier later on.

Yes, the idea is to avoid probate.
Even if you have next of kin, without a will your estate can be tied up for many, many months after your death.
If you are considering a will, can I suggest a medical proxy?
This would be a person who makes medical decisions for you in the event that you are incapacitated. This is not the same as a person who you might designate to pay your bills for you.
Google 'living wills', 'POA', 'Advanced directives'...
Really, your quality of life might someday depend on it.

Not unless you want the state to decide how your estate is divided.
Every state has laws how estates are to be divided if one dies. If you don't care how they do it then you don't need one.
If you have children or wife you need to see a lawyer to set up a will or trust. Lawyer can advise what they are and you can chose what is best for you and your loved ones.

If you feel that you want to ensure that any particular person is going to get something of yours after you die, then yes. If you can't be bothered and would rather let the vultures descend on your belongings, then no.

A will is a good idea. Even if you merely state that all you have goes to your spouse.
