I think that when people answer questions on here and say well dear____- It makes me think they are much older, which is not really true lol, or that they think they know so much more, which I hope they do, :) but it makes me feel icky.
In person, I say Hi sweety-to children I know. That is about it.
So what think?

I think sometimes it is done subconsciously.
I know I have made the slip a couple of times.
I do not mean any offence by it.
I really don't mind as long as the answer isn't abusive or derogatory in any way
Have a great day

I agree with you about 'dear'.....don't like it on here or in person. I don't mind 'sweety,' but even that can be used in a sarcastic way sometimes....on here or in person.

I like a term of endearment, in person, but not on here. If my partner( if I had one) was to call me dear, i'd be not offended. On here, though, I get your drift.

it depends on who is saying that to me... if it is a friend it generally doesn't bother me, but if it is a person i don't know well or at all i feel like he/she is ironic when calling me "dear" or "sweety". that's it.

Generally no. One person I know can get away with that. Well, I guess old people can call me that too.
