It is a 6 if it lands on the boundary rope.
According to the Laws of Cricket:
"Law 19: Boundaries
Section 2,c(i): For a rope, which includes any similar object of curved cross section lying on the ground, the boundary edge will be the line formed by the innermost points of the rope
along its length.
Section 4,b: Unless agreed differently under (a) above, the allowances for boundaries shall be 6 runs if the ball having been struck by the bat pitches beyond the boundary, but otherwise 4 runs."
If the ball lands on the rope it has landed beyond the innermost points of the rope and as such should be awarded 6 runs.
(Of course the stroke is actually worth as many runs as are given by the umpire!)

i think it's a 4 as you've got to cross the boundary rope directly for it to be a 6

If the ball lands over the rope without touching the ground, it is six.
However, if the ball lands on the rope it is 4.

If the ball touches on the boundary rope it is a four. If it touches over the boundary rope, then it is a six.
