Ok, we often hear of instances where the police were outgunned by the bad guys (like the LA bank robbers with machine guns), or had the chance to save a life but were not able to because their hands are tied legally (like chasing a perp across state lines).

On the other hand, we hear of abuse of power and brutality (Rodney King).

So, which is it? Or are we good where we're at?

cops do whatever they want to ta begin with. they definetly don't need anymore power. just because they wear a badge they think they are better than you and me. Agood example of this is..... a couple weeks ago i stopped at a convenient store on central when I pulled off i got pulled over the first question he asked me was what were you doing back there? A duh there's a store back there and thats where I was. He gave me a ticket for having an air freshner on my rearview mirror now i have to pay $75.00. What kind of crap is this? I can't even drive down certain roads without being mistaken for a drug user? If anything they need some power taken away from them.

Rodney King was abused? I thought he was a bit rude to the gentlemen who pulled him over and attempted to educate him on the dangers of drunk driving and how this makes him look like an uncultured man about town when, clearly, he has a responsibility to be a role model for others since he was the star of a short film destined to become a classic. I did think, however, that he overacted a bit as did the uniformed gentlemen overdo the fight sequence. Perhaps someone will do a remake of the film with a more qualified director than Jesse Jackson. I understand that former LAPD chief, Darryl Gates, is considering this property for his directorial debut.

Police should have more power. They should be able to conduct searches and seizures on a hunch. They should be able to carry whatever weaponry they can personally afford. They should be able to 'deputize' their own little posses. They should be allowed to keep any money, drugs, and weapons they find. They should be allowed to kill anyone who interferes with their work. The person above me has the right idea. Bring back corporal punishment too. When a dog soils the carpet, how do you discipline it? You put it's nose into the mess and smack it's @ss with a newspaper. Lashings in a public square could be punishment enough and would cost less than a 3 year sentence.

in many countries they shoot you for running.. they should do that here as well..The police (if you watch cops you see it constantly) They are chasing total dregs, people who serve NO purpose and are a load on society..They are just wasting oxygen and resources by being alive..The La bank robbers?..That was ridicules. They shoulda hit'em with an artillery shell..A hand held rocket launcher would have ENDED that RIGHT NOW!.. And high speed chases.. They must love to do that.. in most instances they have a chopper in the air telling them where they are going.. So why not BACK OFF.. Let them think they are getting away, follow them from the air and once they stop? Take'em out from the air with 50 cal.. I for one am SICK and TIRED of our judicial system coddling worthless blobs of flesh that suck the life out of good people..They can't be saved, changed or rehabilitated..PUT THEM TO SLEEP and QUIT wasting our tax dollars supporting their lives in prisons.. death rowers and lifers?.. put'em down like DOGS!.. habituals PUT'EM DOWN!..imagine how much pain suffering and money we could save by just burying them in burlap bags or better still? incinerate them and use their ashes for fertilizer!

Not more power. I am concerned about the use of taser guns. I do not think they should be used except in a case where a suspect has shown himself to be violent or threatening. Pepper spray should suffice if necessary. There have been cases where people have been tasered in routine traffic stop disputes, which is extreme and cruel. People have died as a result of this instrument!

Less ... the power they have now places them, in their own minds, above the law. By the way...I was a cop for 5 years.

I've dealt with a lot of rude cops so I'd have to say less power.

The police, in Australia, almost shot me, for no good reason. I think that they should have to eat dirt, for eternity.....and then apologise to me, for what they did...... Bunch of cun%'s !!!!!!!
