There are so many topics that are "hot" and very interesting in biology right now...
When I was in high school, I did two research projects...one on pheremonal communication and one on recombinant DNA. Both of these were in their infancy ath the time (that was almost 30 years ago) so there is a lot more information available today.
Perhaps you could look into the human genome project or some other branch of genetic engineering...genetics is a really fascinating topic in biology, and right now there is a ton of research going on.
Just do an internet search on "biology project/paper topics" and see what you get.
