Do not be afraid to trade early. In my experience, Monopoly is a game of luck if everyone waits to trade. Take chances! It is usually worth the risk to trade for early for a potential Monopoly giving you better odds later in the game. For example, a trade that will get you your second orange or red property (with one the last one unbought) will usually go cheaper since you won't gain a Monopoly, just the chance for one. Later in the game, players may be unwilling to trade the last of those colors to give you Monopoly unless your willing to pay and pay and pay.

1) when you buy properties, do not buy anyhow. Aim only several colour groups. Do not be afraid to not being able to complete the colour because you can trade later.

2) buy the train stations whenever you can.

3) As soon as you complete a colour group, concentrate on building houses, irregardless of the property value.

4) If you have enough cash, once you see someone is completing a certain colour group and you happen to step on the last site, buy it. You can sell at high price later to that player or exchange for much valuable property.

Good Luck!

I've usually concentrated on the low-rent district (the first two color groups) and on the railroads. I'll aggressively barter for these. Once I have them then I'll develop them up to hotels as soon as possible... if cash is too tight for 3 hotels then at least make sure your last property in each group has one.

If you can, make sure you buy or trade for the properties that people are forced to go to... Boardwalk, St. Charles, Reading, and one in the Red (can't remember if it's Illinois or Indiana right now). Try to get those Monopolies as well.

In the games I've played the higher-rent districts just don't get much play... the improvements are really expensive and it just seems that they don't get landed on very much. I can't explain that, but honestly, in most of the games I've played, Red, Yellow and Green just don't get landed on very often.

There's a strong element of luck involved in playing Monopoly, but there's also enough strategy so that skilled players will win more often than not. Follow this plan and you'll be smiling all the way to Boardwalk.

I buy as many properties as possible, no matter what they are and even if that means I go into debt by mortgaging what I have to pay for new properties. Then I will have frequent income and my opponents who are struggling with few properties and dwindling funds can be practically forced into making lousy trades so that they can just stay afloat.

If you REALLY want to win try playing a little kid and mindgame him the whole way through it. Yes, it's heartless, but so is business. MUAHAHHAHAHAH
