I've been thinking about different styles and mediums of art to play around with, and I remembered seeing some at an art display I had seen.

If I remember right, it was accomplished by putting wax on the cavas and dyeing the uncovered area and repeating the process.

So, does anyone know what this is called, or anything close to what I'm trying to seek? Other recomendations of mediums to experiment with would also be apreciated. Thanks.

It is Batik.

This is an excellent site that explains all about the process and different ways to do it. It also tells you the pros and cons of different brands of products you'll need, and which ones are good for beginners.

it is a bitique. it is usually used on silk and explored and used in african cultures. (May also have been used in asia)Like water color painting. It is similar to the material used to mask areas to keep them white. Wax serves the same purpose. Once you are done you can use an iron and a piece of linen and newsprint to get the wax removed. (assuming you do not use oil paints)
