Basically, this is asking what prejudices you had/have about the residents, and what you have done to overcome these. For example, you might have an assumption that a resident is not capable of understanding something, so you make a decision for them. A way of challenging this prejudice would be to ask the resident and see if they can make the decision on their own. Basically, challenging your prejudices and assumptions is treating the residents in the same way as you would treat someone else. You need to think of your own examples of course!

When you make your initial assumptions about what care may be required, do you make notes, a list of questions to ask a resident, as well as any other staff? After you have made an assessment and talked to the resident do you then re-evaluate and use the information gained for your next initial assessment? Do recall that each resident is an individual and while you can make some educated guesses, only by discussing them can you get a full picture.

Depends on where you are getting work experience - for example you may be working with older people and have preconcieved ideas that all older people share characteristics and needs based on their age and not individual need. I would suggest that you look at the client group you are working with, then jot down your assumptions about this group and then look at how your assumptions influence how you relate to people.
