All you could do is sit him down and tell him that you'd like it if you guys could spend some time alone at times, and his friend being there all the time doesn't allow for any of it. The last thing you want to do is give him an ultimatum because most likely, he'd choose the friend.

Your boy friend needs to share the boot so his friend's feet don't get cold. Hey, how come only one boot? Is he an amputee?

Tell him that because you three are always together either you think the friend is starting to like you or you are starting to like the friend more than him...he'll probably boot his friend as soon as possible ! =)
