Gas theft will always be around regardless of prices at the pumps. Spend a few dollars and invest in a locking gas cap. It's that easy.

I think that as gas prices go up, theft of gas from vehicles, boats, gas stations, etc will increase. It's a universal truth that the more scarce a commodity is, the more prone to theft it is.
However, as gas theft starts to go up, so will gas "sharing" through new services like http://www.ridester.com
