First of all, this is not a physics question - this is a technology question.
The megapixel listing on digital cameras indicate the number of pixels that appear in each image taken by the camera. Cameras with a larger number of pixels per image create higher quality pictures with better clarity (i.e. more megapixels means nicer looking pictures).
However, larger megapixel images also take up alot more room on the memory cards for cameras, so you can't store as many pictures.

What it refers to is the number of pixels on the CCD chip of the camera your interested in buying. CCD = charge coupled display, which is equivilent to the film on an old style camera, except on our new digital cameras it's a fixed chip where the light is focused. each pixel contains a red, green and blue filtered CCD point, lumped together they are called a pixel,, just like the light emiting ones you are reading this off of on your screen right now, except they are light recieving ones, are on a chip, and are much smaller. The more pixels,, the more "resolution" or finer grained your pictures will be. That explain it? please, if you don't have a clear understanding of the answer to a question being asked,, just limit your answers to single words or phrases like " I don't know".

a pixel is a dot of colour, the more dots of colour the better the image - many people waste money because they have good cameras and bad printers don't waste money on a 7 mega pixel camera your printer isnt that good

for each Digital image it is build up from small units that r mainly very small squares like the kid cubes, so the pexil and mega pixles are the measuring usnits of these small squares. so by increasing the number of them in an image the quality of the pic s to be better, yet it takes more space to do that.

put it simply, it means how many "small colored dots" is the picture made up of. if u magnify a picture u ll realise it is made up of many small coloured dots. 1 Megapixel means 1 million small dots..
