In South Africa, I have been in these reserves listed below and can recommend them all, but I found the Madikwe and Shamwari the best ones. Here is the list - they are all in different provinces/areas in SA, so you would have to look on a map. They all have wide variety of wildlife.

Kruger Park (northern province & mpumalanga)
Khalagadi Transfrontier Park (northern cape)
Pilansberg game reserve (north west province)
Hluhluwe/Umfolozi game reserve (kwazulu natal)
Karoo National park (western cape)
Addo elephant park (eastern cape)
Shamwari game reserve (eastern cape)

If you meant in southern Africa (which consists of many different countries) - then I would suggest the Skeleton Coast National Park in Namibia for rare sightings of the desert elephants and desert rhinos.
But there is also the Etosha National Park

In Botswana, Chobe is most probably the best and most affordable.

Kenya and Tanzania have wonderful safari opportunities, such as Masia Mara in Kenya and in Tanzania there is the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro crater.

So lots to do in terms of animal watching in Southern Africa. Lots of information available on the internet as well. Happy searching and have a great holiday.

Don't think Kenya, cause Kenya is another country in Africa.
In South Africa a good place to go is the Kruger National Park, it's huge and you will see the big five there as well. It's way up in the north of South Africa (borders of Zim and Bots)

As a potential tourist to South Africa you should acquaint yourself with danger to both yourself and your family or friends before embarking on such a trip. South Africa is in and has been for many years in the grip of violent crime and many areas are totally unsafe. To compound matters both the Government of South Africa and their Tourist Boards are not informing tourists correctly and are completely disingenous in their attempts to lure travellers. Please visit the site www.crimexposouthafrica.org to read first hand accounts from ordinary South Africans who have or their families have been the victims of vicious crime. This site has been set up by a local business man to draw World attention to the plight of South Africans in the face of Government attempts to hide the truth. If you decide thereafter to continue with a visit to South Africa then I would advise you to take extraordinary precautions to safe guard yourself whist there.

No matter which park you choose, you have to be lucky to see animals. I liked Hluhluwe/Umfolozi game reserve, the park itself is also beautiful.
an as second the Kruger park.
