It seems like every time I ask a question in the LGBT category, even if it's a playful question, I'll get a response akin to "we're just like everybody else." If you are just like everybody else, why is this the only category where I get that response?

Probably the reason you get answers along the lines of "we're just like everybody else" is because the GLBT community gets questions of "what do gay people do about ___, or ____"? and questions along those lines. Or "how does a gay person flirt, date, raise a family, get a job, (fill in blank here) and that's probably why the GLBT community responds with "we're just like everybody else" is because they are, when it comes to those aspects.

When you ask a question, expect a response. If you already knew what response you wanted, you could keep your questions to yourself. Now that sounds harsh and rude, but it's the truth. You've come in here asking questions, and then complained about the answers. That's kind of harsh and rude too.

As for why this is the only category where you get that response, I guess maybe this is one of the only, if not THE only category that is about a segment of the population, rather than about some other "subject". Your questions are about real people, and if they are arumentative, or playful, you have to remember that you are asking about a group of people, not about a sport, a disease, a religion, or the subject of any of the other many topics.

I just looked through the answers to some of your recent questions, and I did not think anyone sounded defensive. Did I miss something (again)?

Anyway, I hope you get a chance to hang out with some gay and bi guys (and some lesbians) in a sports bar, and I hope you find out that you are in such good company.

I would suggest that you treat yourself to visits to a few gay bars in your home area (or in a city you are visiting sometime, if going to a gay bar in your home area would feel uncomfortable to you). Make sure it is in a large city (at least the size of Indianapolis, for example), because the people at gay establishments in small cities usually know almost everybody there, so it can be really hard to strike up a conversation. You might possibly encounter some resistance from some folks when they find out you are a straight guy in a gay bar, but probably not when there is a drag show going on.

Listen, Halloween is coming up, and that is probably the best time to pay your first visit to a party-oriented gay bar. Give it a try!

We are so used to the hateful comments that even a question in a playful tone can be mistaken as something more .... malicious. I could list the names of homophobes on here but I won't because that'd be a waste of my time and yours. When we get attacked from almost every angle by those people, why shouldn't we be defensive??!

Question:

Why do you hang out in the gay section?

I mean, why?

I don't think saying, "we're just like everybody else" is a bad response.

We ARE just like everybody else.

Maybe you're just too sensitive.

I'm not just like everybody else.

ANYWAY.. a lot of people come to this section looking for a fight. So they've made a lot of people here defensive.

cuz most questions r based in rude tones so we dont know if a person is being nice or hateful or just being stupid. maybe try saying that you are only kidding and dont mean what you say but looking for answers to see what people say? i dont know...you might get critisized for doing that as well.

Your tone of questioning will solicit the same tone of answers.

Becuase you could've said something to offend people.

Like right now, you're saying that every gay person is dramatic, which is stupid.
